The Ouija board is actually not the original talking board. The actual "Talking Boards" came into existence in the late 1800's. Generally this is when Séances were very popular. The actual name "Ouija" is actually a trademark name, a.k.a the model of the board.
The triangle, or heart, do-ma-hicker is actually called the "planchette." When playing with this mystical board with a bunch of drunk friends, you may not want to take what the board says into consideration. I mean all of y'alls fingers are on this damn thing, and you know that one friend who takes things a little too far by spinning his head all the way around, using a cross how it shouldn't be used and then, when they can't handle their liquor, they spew the split green soup y'all had for dinner.
Of course we all know, or most of us know, that the Ouija Board is used to contact the dead. Some people believe that it is the communication tool to the evilness that resides! Wahaha! It has a yes, no, sometimes the word maybe, goodbye, numbers1-0 and the whole alphabet.

China is believed to be one of the first users of the "Ouija like instruments" way before Confucius was birthed.
The talking boards came to light after spiritual mediums would tie a pencil to a basket. The spirits were believed to write a message out with this pencil. Then the planchette came to replace the basket, along with, a small wooden board and two casters and the pencil attached.
~*The tool after the pencil and the basket. I couldn't find a picture of the pencil and the basket. This is the planchette, casters and the pencil.*~
In 1886 the first talking board came to be. Elijah Bond was listed as the inventor of the first named talking board, the Ouija Board. Bond was playing around with the Ouija board, and he said that the board told him that Ouija was the Egyptian word for good luck. Guess what? WRONG! From research the Egyptian name for good luck is, Shai-Nefer. Any way, he probably adapted the name from the fabled Moroccan city of Ouijda due to the popularity of the psychics of the Middle East. William Fuld was not the inventor of the Ouija Board as first thought.
~*Elijah Bond and his gravestone. He had an unmarked grave until 2008 when some dude received permission to provide Elijah's resting place with a headstone. Pictures and story can be found at WilliamFuld*~
Parker Brother's, the makers of Monopoly, decided "Hey this is a great board game to put on shelves and have people play with." They bought the rights in 1966, and during the following year, they sold over 2 million boards. It outsold Monopoly. Haha! There are now many many many versions of the Ouija Board. The design has been used for many of products as well. From watches to guitars.

I don't play with these things. I don't consider them games or toys. I dwell very much into the supernatural spirit world and like the nice, gentle and humble spirits. I can't be for sure that this "toy" actually summons evil spirits, however, I am not one to screw with the spirit world.
So my kick ass followers, what are your thoughts on the Ouija Board?
~*Please don't let your thought bubble be blank*~

I personally believe in the Ouija board. I used to use one a long time ago but haven't touched it since. Not that I don't want to, but no one wants to do it with me.
I also believe that you shouldn't fuck with this board.
Thanks for the history of the Ouija board, it was very interesting ^_^

Thanks for the history! Very interesting! I don't really know what I think about the Ouija board. But I don't mess around, just in case. I kinda believe in supernatural "stuff" cuz of some "stuff" that happened when I was young, so I just don't take chances.
never tried the Ouija bored but I have had a couple of "wedgies" of whihc makes no sense to this post but I thought I'd share...
wocka, wocka, wocka.... good day =)
Like the others I haven't tried the Ouija board...but being a native well I think we can beat the Ouija. My native name alone is a big taboo to other tribes, in so much that some will not befriend me cause the owl is a bad omen for them. Oh well I am half Irish too so I'll just stick with the leprechauns eh?
Those things freak me out!
Awesome...
As long as no one vomits in green, I'm down :).
you know we used to pay around with these back in the day...quite possible...
Thats neat !!! supporting !
Fraid at this point I'm an unbeliever in anything ghostly.
I pretty much follow Houdini on this one. It's not that I am not open minded to the possibility of the existance of something, it's just that there has been no good evidence yet. And I don't mean Eye witness stories as they are useless, ask the courts.
Sadly the main supporters in the public eye are the kind of people you wouldn't buy a used car off which gives them no credibility, and despite the existance of some fairly significant sums of money for anyone who can demonstrate clairvoyancy etc under controlled conditions no one has been willing to step up to the mark.
There's a guy over here called Derren Brown who does a mind reading/control act and freely admits it is an act, he followed a supposed clairvoyant around a few months ago and the resultant show was a real eyeopener to what these people are like.
Kid, I've flown from one side of this galaxy to the other. I've seen a lot of strange stuff, but I've never seen anything to make me believe there's one all-powerful force controlling everything. There's no mystical energy field that controls my destiny.
I've never played with/used one. But your post was a good read on the history of it.
I did this as a kid with my friend, kinda sorta. We wrote down the alphabet and did something to indicate exact letters (forget what).
The first question was: Are there spirits in this room? The answer was: Y, E and S. After that, needless to say, I haven't indulged in this :P Got scared.
I whole heartedly acknowledge different planes of existence though, sure there are beings without physical bodies, and sure there is control over us. Sure we have free will as well.
i had one when i was a kid. (i still do...but have not touched in a loooong time).
...back in the day...when my GF and i used it...we contacted some guy who was a soldier that died...in some spanish american war that the 2 of us had never heard of. it was pretty freaky!
and yeah...your blog kicks ass...
