Do not feed the squirrels.

~*Disclaimer*~ Don't hate me! =D

I know I know you are not supposed to feed wildlife, but this squirrel was just so damn cute! We were BBQing, and out of no where here is Mr. Twirly the squirrel just standing there staring at us. I could have reached out and touched him with my hand.

~*That's how close he was.*~

I think he was so friendly due to people feeding him. He only had his right eye, probably due to some hawk trying to jack the food out of his hand, but had the best personality a squirrel could have. Not that I know many squirrels. I mean he wasn’t jumping off of trees and taking out people’s jugulars just so he could hijack their food.

So I notice him standing there, looking at me with those sad squirrel eyes. I go and throw him a piece of bread. He comes over quickly and snatches it up and just stands there and eats it, with the biggest smile ever upon his face.

~*Just look at that smile!*~

We throw a few more pieces at him thinking that he would stock pile the pieces in his den up in the tree. Not the case, he sat and ate ever piece that we threw at him. We only gave him one side of a hot dog bun.

~*Nom Nom Nom*~

Before we left we gave him the other half, which he took out of my hand, and ran up the tree never to be seen again. Hopefully he stock piled that piece for it was Autumn and Winter was to be coming right around the corner.

We go back and visit the lake, but we haven’t seen Mr. Twirly. Hopefully he was either off playing or moved to a different spot.

There are pros & cons on feeding wildlife...but hey he was sooo cute eh?
Had a squirrel once that used to drop walnuts from the tree on my lil dog. Zuni never knew what had hit her...lol she never looked up. That squirrel did that every time Zuni was out in the yard...too funny!

Adorable!!!! The squirrels in Sheffield botanical garden are so used to people and food that they will clamber up you into your pockets if you're not careful :o)

Squirrel is also mighty tasty, which has just reminded me there is one in the kitchen waiting to be prepared for the freezer.

I can remember a few years ago, my wife and I were feeding a squirrel during a picnic and once we began feeding this one squirrel, within minutes we were surrounded by at least 8 to 10 squirrels looking for a bite to eat.

Nice post!

Ralley: I know right?!

Eemah: Yeah and that’s not good. I hope he also knows how to get food for himself when humans are not around. =)

Diane-Sage: Awww poor dog. If Zuni only knew, that squirrel might not have done that for too long I feel.

Affi’enia: Pick-pocketing squirrels! Crazy!

Broccoli: Taste like chicken?

She Writes: I could understand, one minute they seem all cute and nice and then BAM they are clawing your eyes out! Okay I probably exaggerated that a bit…

Brian: “Lord have mercy on me!”

Annah: As stated to Ralley, I know right?!

Knife: Seagulls in Utah are the same damn way. You feed one and they all come flying. It’s that way with the geese here in Colorado too.

Krisno: Welcome to the blog, and thank you!

Somewhere between rabbit and the dark meat you used to get on chickens is how I would describe it. You need one per person though as there isn't a lot on them. They are very lean as well so best cooked with a rasher of bacon over the back I would have thought to stop it drying out too much.

He's a cutie pie. You're lucky. I would've loved to get that close. She Writes' comment reminded me of that scene Charlie and the Chocolate Factory ... LOL I have a squirrel who lives in the tree right outside my patio. He teases my dogs something awful. He'll stand on my patio railing and do his little bark thing. It makes them crazy. LOL Nice post.

This post totally reminded me of a hilarious conversation I had with my son when he was four. I will now write a post about it and give you total inspirational credit! You and your cute little squirrel!
